The Ekisaakaate Kya Nnabagereka (EKN) is the Flagship Program of the Nnabagereka Development Foundation (NDF). It is a leadership development and mentorship camp whose aim is to nurture both boys and girls into holistic individuals, social managers and leaders who appre ciate and harmonize both traditional and modern values.

The EKN is a time-tested and proven one-of-a-kind, behavior modification model that has had a remarkable impact on the lives of over 12,000 young people since its inception in 2007.

PURPOSE
The "Ekisaakaate" program aims at nurturing young girls and boys into holistic individuals, social managers and leaders who appreciate and harmonize both traditional and modern values.

BACKGROUND
Ekisaakaate was the traditional enclosure adorned with papyrus reeds around the homesteads of local chiefs and other high-ranking personalities in Buganda Kingdom. Inside the 'Ekisaakaate' young Baganda boys were taken for cultural grooming, leadership development, acquisition of morals, occupational skills and other requisite skills to enhance their quality of life. The alumni of this informal education and training institution were the model icons of society in reference to manners, discipline, responsibility, cultural norms and values of the Baganda.

It is important to note that girls were excluded from this cultural orientation and were limited to being tutored on cultural norms at home by their mothers, paternal aunts and grandmothers. Drawing from the Ekisaakaate concept of our forefathers, HRH Nnabagereka (Queen) Sylvia Nagginda remodeled the program to suit modem times by opening it up to girls and by introducing contemporary values to complement the traditional ones. The Ekisaakaate Kya Nnabagereka (EKN) has grown to become the leading leadership development and mentorship camp in Uganda, Africa and beyond.
