About us

The foundation

Founded by Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nagginda, the Nnabagereka (Queen) of the Kingdom of Buganda, the Nnabagereka Development Foundation - NDF - is a charitable organisation that leverages culture for development.

While the Nnabagereka Development Foundation is an independently registered organisation, it is part of the Buganda Kingdom structure which provides effective mechanism and channels for the Foundation’s development interventions.

Since its founding in 2000, the Foundation has actively been involved in making a positive difference in the lives of children, youth and women in Uganda and elsewhere. Part of what makes us unique is that we draw on positive cultural values from the rich culture and traditions of the Kingdom of Buganda and balance these values with contemporary ones.

We apply this mixture of tradition and modernity as an approach to address development challenges. This innovative approach to development has positioned the Nnabagereka Development Foundation to make a difference not only at the national level but internationally as well.

Focus on society's most vulnerable

The Foundation’s target population are the children, youth and women.

Children
We work towards nurturing holistic individuals, responsible and humane citizens through strengthening the family and the children’s voice.

Youth
We make the most of the youth’s creativity and industriousness to nurture entrepreneurship, leadership and a purposeful life

Women
We empower women by strengthening their voice and agency to drive change processes and participate in making decisions about their lives, starting at the family level.
